From my garden
Real specimens of leaves, flowers, seeds and any other treasures I find in our garden. I am a very keen gardener and living on the west coast of Scotland we have a great climate for growing some interesting plants. I am looking forward to expanding this collection in the summertime when I move my studio outside into the stone lean-to against the garden wall.
Each specimen is painted with layers of recycled silver paste. Then kiln fired to remove the organic binders and water, sintering the silver particles together. Capturing each specimen as pure, fine silver (999) as the real thing burns away.
Sometimes I gild the silver by adding 24 carat gold using the ancient Korean technique of Keum-Boo. This process uses heat and pressure to create a permanent diffusion bond between the two precious metals.
